Orbea launch Mahle X20 motor powered 2023 Gain

Orbea has launched its latest e-road bike, the 2023 Gain, delivering 55Nm of torque from a Mahle X20 motor, paired with a 350 Wh battery.

The 2023 Gain features road bike geometry, coming in one additional size, paired with a 35mm tyre clearance, giving a blended tarmac and gravel capability.

Wheelbase has been reduced from the previous Gain, to improve responsiveness, with chainstays 5mm shorter, to improve acceleration.

The bottom bracket is 2mm lower, improving stability. Additionally, each of the 6 available sizes features a tuned amount of trail and optimized stack and reach. The 2023 size range now runs XS (47–49), S (51), M (53), L (55), XL (57) and XXL (60).

The Mahle X20 system and 350Wh battery are at the heart of a package which has seen Orbea increase battery size, up from 250Wh, without any increase in the overall bike weight, thanks to weight savings made elsewhere.

This gives Gain one of the longest ranges in the category, meaning that for most riders the bike isn’t going to limit how far you can ride.

Using the first of the three assistance modes on the new Gain, it’s possible to climb up to 4,000m with a single battery charge for a cyclist weighing around 70kg.

On the second mode, expect 3,00m of elevation gain, and 1,500m on the third—incredible figures for a bike which only weighs about 11,5kg.

Orbea uses the elevation gain to measure range because they say that on the flat, thanks to the natural,

friction-free pedalling and light weight of Gain, many riders will place very low demands on the motor and use very little battery.  A 171Wh Range Extender for big days in the saddle.

The Gain is available immediately, in any model, with customization via the Orbea MyO tool, with different options for handlebars, tyres, as well as the optional Range Extender.
