Rutland Cycling plans £1.6 million Leicester branch for 2018

Rutland Cycling has revealed that it will open a 10,000 square foot cycle centre at the new Everards Meadows country park, adjacent to Fosse Park, Leicester.

Due to open in Spring 2018, the branch will offer Rutland’s model of hire, demo and retail in a newly-created country park, where purpose-built cycle trails and cycle skills loops will link to the traffic-free Grand Central Way into Leicester city centre.

In partnership with the family-owned Everards Brewery, the build will see over £1.6 million placed into the cycle centre and over 10 local jobs will be created by the new store alone.

The opening will be Rutland’s 11th, following the opening of new builds at Cambridge Station this year and Peterborough in 2015. Rutland also grew through the acquisition of Station Cycles, Cambridge in 2016.

The retail chain further secured a £3m investment from the Business Growth Fund in 2013, to support the expansion of its store network and website,

Stephen Gould, Everard’s Managing Director, said, “We are delighted to have Rutland Cycling working with us. Rutland’s family and local heritage, allied to their industry-leading retail experience, make the company an ideal partner for our exciting development at Everards Meadows. Sharing a passion for our local area, we both believe there is a fantastic opportunity to introduce more people to the joys of cycling in our region. The Park will not only feature a new brewery but also restaurants, cafes and visitor experiences.”

David Middlemiss, Managing Director of Rutland Cycling, explained, “We are extremely excited to be working in partnership with Everards on our latest store. The Everards Meadows development is an ideal location for our cycling services. We greatly look forward to getting more people on bikes in what is a beautiful part of the world, right on the doorstep of the City of Leicester. We’ll do that not just with our brand new hire bikes, but also through bike sales in what will be our most exciting store yet. An electric bike department, women’s department, road and MTB zones and bike fit offer will all feature, backed by the best brands in the world of cycling. As a family business ourselves it’s a real pleasure to have the opportunity to work with an iconic regional brand who share our values of the highest customer service.”
