Sources confirm ProBikeKit is now part of Frasers Group
Earlier this week we saw reports emerge that online bike retailer ProBikeKit was a potential acquisition target for Evans Cycles owner Frasers Group, and today sources confirmed to CyclingIndustry.News that the sales has gone ahead and PBK has joined the group.
ProBikeKit is the latest in an expanding line of established cycle retail names that have joined the group including TRI UK and, most significantly, Evans Cycles in 2018.
The move by Frasers Group to buy ProBikeKit comes after owner THG Holdings revealed it was paring back its OnDemand division. PBK was understood to be part of the mix of businesses THG was cutting to save costs in April.
ProBikeKit was founded in the early 1990s and established itself in the early days of internet retailing, taking the leap online in ’98 (one year ahead of Wiggle). THG moved to acquire it in 2013.
How PBK will fit into Frasers Group’s plans is a source for speculation, with on the one hand a strong name in the cycle online retail sector and on the other, an opportunity to blend to some degree with the 100-year plus cycle retail brand Evans Cycles.
