Tern partners with Enviolo to launch new automatic shifting system for e-Bikes

Tern has revealed at Eurobike its latest HSD S+ e-Bike model comes equipped with fully automatic shifting from Enviolo.

The urban transportation brand is one of seven exclusive launch partners to offer Automatiq in model year 2020.

Enviolo’s next-generation Automatiq technology integrates the Bosch motor and Enviolo drivetrain, shifting automatically based on speed, cadence and terrain. The addition of Enviolo Automatiq to the HSD S+ makes it even easier to use, according to Tern Team Captain, Josh Hon.

“We all know what a pain it is to drive a manual shift car in stop-and-go-traffic,” he explained. “Well, it’s the same on a bike, especially when you’re carrying a load of stuff. But with Automatiq taking care of shift duties, urban riding becomes a lot more enjoyable.”

The HSD S+ is the top of the line model in the brand’s HSD lineup, with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 170kg and equipped with components from the likes of Bosch, Enviolo, Gates and Magura.

The new Enviolo Automatiq features improved cadence control and higher torque for a smoother and more seamless rider experience. Automatiq also features Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology for easier maintenance, over-the-air updates, and faster service and data sharing of system analytics.

Richard Hilgart, Senior Marketing Manager at Enviolo, added: “We strive to create systems that are easy to assemble, easy to maintain, and more importantly simple to use. With the new Automatiq, we’ve implemented over-the-air updates in all automatic groupset components so that riders can easily get the latest updates. And the app allows riders to customise it to their needs.”

Eurobike visitors can learn more about the Tern HSD at B4-403, and test-ride it at DA-420 from September 4-7. The HSD S+ retails for $4999/€5199 and will be in stores in late Q1 2020.
