UK manufacturer Brooks to open doors to its Birmingham factory

There is chance for the cycling industry and – for the first time, the general public too – to set foot in one of the world’s oldest cycle P&A brands, Brooks.

Brooks Open Factory will take place on Friday and Saturday 13-14 June, with the first day intended for the bike trade while the Saturday is open to the public.

The summer event will see the doors open to the Smethwick, Birmingham manufacturing hub, offering the chance to walk the factory floor, meet the craftspeople and learn how a Brooks saddle is made, where it always has been.

It is believed to the first time in the 160 years Brooks has been making saddles that the public has been allowed in, the firm said, in what is being described as a look inside, not just a look back. Guided tours will be run throughout the day.

“Take a tour, meet some of the factory workers, and learn about how they make the leather saddles.”
