Cactus Tongue seeks investment as overseas ambitions grow

Boutique home bike storage brand Cactus Tongue has told CI.N that it will seek fresh investment to assist in its plans to expand the product’s reach overseas.

Manufactured in the UK and now distributed into the domestic marketplace by Windwave, Cactus Tongue’s product is targeted at the premium end of the market where bikes are to be displayed in apartments or bike shops wishing to add a touch of class to presentations.

Yesterday the two-man team behind the label told CI.N that it is now in a position to develop the brand’s international network in a meaningful way having seeding the product in shops as far away as Denmark and at the award-winning interior design gonged Spinwarriors in Indonesia.

Cactus Tongue designer Jon Taylor said: “We have the capacity to produce massive runs, or small bespoke runs from as little as 36 pieces and perhaps lower where and if brands or retailers club together. To date we have produced bespoke runs for retailers with slat wall and of course the product can be fixed to any firm surface. Bikes can be stored by the top tube, seat tube and also reversed against the wall to be secured via the handlebar too.”

Some bespoke work has already taken place where a Colnago owners day, run by Windwave, saw a limited run produced. That work, says Cactus Tongue, can be delivered now en-masse for cycling clubs and businesses and with short lead times offered thanks to the firm’s two UK steel fabrication partners.

There is hope that the leather component shielding a bike’s paint, currently sourced from Italy, can soon be made with a vegan leather made from nothing less than cactus.

Finally, we’re told that the product may soon make an appearance in incoming Warner Brothers movie Flash. Jon added “we had a call from a very famous set designer’s assistant who required bespoke colouring on a bike stand. It’s something that we carry in limited number and in this case we were able to turn it around quickly for the film.”

The Cactus Tongue flagship product retails for £135, though lower-spec powder-coated and steel wire products also exist.

Those interested in investing in the business’s next stage can contact either Peter Haycocks or Jon Taylor by email.
