Annual LAVA Ironman bike count pinpoints top brands in triathlon

An annual count of bicycle, components and accessories held at the Hawaii Ironman World Championships has revealed the brands favoured by athletes.

Dating back many years, the count has become widely considered a barometer of the brands most successful at the higher-end of the sport.

Lava Magazine, who assist in the count, reports that Cervelo has once again proved the most popular choice in the complete bike survey, with 570 bikes used, while direct-to-consumer giant Canyon has lost the most ground, falling from 15th place to 102nd this year in the count.

The top five brands were: Cervelo, Trek(261), Specialized (216), Felt (177) and Argon 18 (146). The 2016 count data is here for comparison.

Extending well beyond just what bikes riders are using, there are also counts for the most common wheel choices, helmets, aerobars, saddles, hydration systems, components, pedals and even powermeters.
