Brompton Bike Hire celebrates bumper year

Brompton Bike Hire is celebrating a bumper year as 2022 draws to a close. The company has seen a hugely successful 12 months in terms of both new registrations and bike hires.

Woman at cafe in station with folded Brompton Compared to last year, there has been a 52% increase in App downloads, 112% increase in registration completions, 232% increase in new joiners and 119% increase in bike hires.

9 new docks have been installed to date in this financial year, with a further 6 set to be introduced by April 2023. With lockers in locations from London all the way up to Inverness in Scotland, Brompton Bike Hire is already the UK’s largest network of hire bikes, and is continuing to expand.

Much of the success this year has been driven by the introduction in July of their streamlined process for hiring. Previously, hire worked on a membership model. Customers would choose from 2 membership options, frequent or leisure – based on their perceived usage of the service – membership was £20 for frequent membership and resulted in a cheaper £5 daily hire fee. Or £10 for Leisure membership and a £10 daily hire fee.

This structure was removed in favour of a flat £5 a day charge (with no joining fee) to keep things simple, and appeal to as many new customers as possible. This change also coincided with the 12 year anniversary of Brompton Bike Hire.

Seeking to expand the range available for hire, Brompton Bike Hire is also trialling the introduction of Brompton Electric bikes to the scheme, with a pilot running in London at the moment.

2022 has also seen the continuation of the Wheels for Heroes initiative, which has seen 5000 users since its inception in 2020 during the pandemic. Initially set up to provide bikes to healthcare workers, the scheme has expanded with bikes being used in projects including; with Low income households in partnership with Hadley Property Group, helping Refugees in partnership with Newham Council
and for a Bike Library in partnership with Greater Manchester.

2023 is set to be another successful year for Brompton Bike Hire, with further expansion and upgrades in the pipeline.

Julian Scriven, Managing Director at Brompton Bike Hire said: ‘’Everyone at Brompton Bike Hire is delighted with the number of people using our bikes this year. We want to see more people cycling, and our mission is to make that as easy and convenient as possible. We can’t wait to continue expanding our offer across the UK in 2023, and making renting a Brompton an even better experience.’’
