Brompton issues US safety recall notice for electric bike

Brompton has, in the United States, issued a recall notice for its foldable electric bike, due to “Crash and Injury Hazards”.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission announcement details the following hazard:

The solutions listed: Repair (via approved retailer)

The recall notice was issued on Thursday 9th of June, effecting an estimated 2230 US based, and 110 Canada based bikes.

This announcement was originally made by Brompton on March 21st, having, at the end of 2021, initiated an upgrading of all Brompton Electric bikes – fitting a new mudguard stay to increase clearance, along with a new battery catch (relating to a separate announcement).

The brand has seen massive expansion in the United States, registering over 50% growth, leading to the appointment of a USA President for the brand. “The USA is a top strategic growth market for Brompton…” said Stephen Loftus, Chief Commercial Officer at Brompton.
