Brose wins award for the S Mag motor

The Brose Drive S Mag with its unique magnesium housing has won the Design & Innovation Award 2019. The ‘Mag’ stand for magnesium, meaning the drive unit has much lighter housing shell. So it’s a whopping 500 grams lighter and 15 percent smaller than previous versions. Nice to see that material and term making a come back. Brings back memories of 70’s motorbikes and 90s MTB parts.

But of course, this usage is all about the future say Brose. “We have taken a bold step forward with the development of the Drive S Mag,” says Dr. Joachim Volland, Head of Brose Antriebstechnik. “We were the first, and so far the only manufacturer to successfully use magnesium as the material for this drive’s specially-designed housing. Winning this award shortly after the launch of the Drive S Mag confirms that we’re on the right track.”

The jury described the Brose Drive S Mag as a ‘new benchmark in the emountain bike segment’ in the offroad components category. The combination of compact design, natural power delivery and high performance
convinced the panelists during a rigorous two-week evaluation.

“It particularly impressed us how well this powerhouse can be controlled. Thanks to its speed and torque-dependent control in ‘Flex Power Mode’, the Drive S Mag delivers its power very naturally and reacts even more directly to the rider´s input.” commented the judging panel which includes a  test team, staff from the magazines ENDURO, E–MOUNTAINBIKE and GRAN FONDO, plus bike industry insiders and specialists from outside the industry.
