Cervélo issues recall on R5 and Caledonia-5 over faulty stems

Cervélo has announced a product recall on selected bike models carrying what is believed to be a faulty faceplate on the bike’s stem.

The affected stems are the ST31 LT units, found on the 2022 R5 and Caledonia-5 bikes and there exist reports of slippage, which ultimately can lead the rider to lose control of the bike. At present there exist 13 report of handlebars slipping and one that has resulted in injury.

Owners of the bikes are now requested to head for their local Cervélo dealer for a free repair and replacement of the faceplate.

Only sold in black, the affectrecall ed units are found on what is believed to be 1,800 bikes, with a further 182 stems being recalled in North America where the recall was placed on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada sites. 243 additional bikes with affected stems are believed to be in the Canadian market.

On sale from May 2021 into July of 2022, the two models retailed for between $5,000 and $13,000 and individually a stem would cost $300.
