CoreBike: What you may have missed from Extra UK

Didn’t make it up to Whittlebury Hall last week? CI.N caught up with several of the distributors making a case to become your bikes and accessories supplier for the year ahead. Here’s what you may have missed from Extra UK:

Adaptive saddles

Fizik reveals what it deems to be the future of performance cycling saddles with Adaptive, featuring padding Crafted by Carbon using Digital Light Synthesis technology, a revolutionary 3D printing technology developed by digital manufacturing pioneers Carbon.

Carbon has taken 3D printing to “a new level”, enabling the firm to produce a range of saddles that feature padding made of one material but with seamlessly engineered zonal cushioning, support and power transfer properties. These unique features mean it will be possible in the future to produce saddles tailored to riders’ individual biodynamic data.

Argo is a new range of short-nosed saddles from Fizik, designed to put cyclists into a riding position that allows for greater stability and better weight distribution. There are two versions of the new saddle to suit different riding styles: Vento Argo and Tempo Argo. Vento Argo is geared more towards racing cyclists, with its dropped nose and ergonomic cut-out to support and aggressive aero riding position, whereas the Tempo Argo is suited more to endurance riders looking for all-day comfort and soft tissue pressure relief.

Gravita Alpaca is a mountain bike saddle that provides the control you need for fast, aggressive downhill riding. Developed with the highly successful Santa Cruz Syndicate downhill race team, its World Cup-proven features perfectly complement gravity-oriented bikes, from long travel enduro to pure downhill. Rounded contours won’t interrupt the fast inner legs movements required for downhill control. Co-injected softer edges along the wings and rear-end flex upon impact, protecting legs and soft tissue areas from bruising. And less bulk and a shorter length means it doesn’t get in the way.

The Terra Alpaca is a mountain bike saddle offering support and riding control for full-suspension trail bikes. Designed for all-mountain and enduro riding, Terra Alpaca offers great pedalling support but is also easy to move around on. A gradual transition from nose to wings encourages constant fore and aft position changes, while a slightly waved tail discreetly supports the lower back. The nose is wide and flat, offering a solid platform to push against when tackling steep climbs. And an ergonomic indent relieves soft tissue pressure without interfering with baggy riding shorts. Alpaca saddles are designed to feel right whether the dropper post is extended for pedalling or dropped for descents.

Cinturato Gravel and Cyclocross Tyres

Expanding from the successful Cinturato Velo range, the new gravel and cyclocross line of tires from Pirelli features purposely designed tread patterns, dedicated development per each size and a new rubber compound. They have been designed to handle the most demanding off-road applications of CX and Gravel bicycles, no matter the weather.

Whether for the specific cross use or for the gravel riding, for racing, bikepacking or simply for extending the bike’s capability of leaving paved roads, the Cinturato Cross and Cinturato Gravel tires offer a comprehensive choice of sizes and technologies for the best riding experience. All tires are tubeless-ready (TLR). Coupling a reinforced casing construction featuring a woven fabric bead-to-bead layer with a TLR aramid bead optimized for wide rims.

Hard Terrain and Mixed Terrain versions are available.

Following the terrain-specific logic of the Scorpion MTB tires, where the tread pattern is linked to the surface consistency and not anymore to the weather variable, Pirelli designed a compact tread design – H or Hard Terrain – for all the paved or hard packed gravel roads and the M, or Mixed Terrain design, with bigger spacing and aggressive knobs for more demanding terrains.

The H and M tread patterns obviously differ whether for the Cross or for the Gravel use as the needs of the two disciplines are different, particularly in terms of mud evacuation and speed.

The Cross version, in its specific Hard Terrain and Mixed Terrain designs, is available in 33x700c

The Gravel version, in its specific Hard Terrain and Mixed Terrain designs, is available in 35x700c, 40x700c and 45x700c, as well as in 45x650b and 50x650b

Cane Creek prides itself on making advancements in technologies that make cycling better and the Hellbender Bottom Bracket is exactly that. Cane Creek has collaborated with SKF’s and incorporated there MTRX bearing technology into a revolutionary new bottom bracket that’s combines the best of both reliability and performance.

During use SKF’s MTRX bearings release oil from micro-pores in the polymer, continuously lubricating the bearings. The solid oil matrix has the effect of eliminating any empty space inside the bearing – preventing dirt, mud and water from entering and causing wear and damage.

This allows the bottom bracket to be ridden in the most extreme conditions without having to regularly service or lubricate the bearings. The Hellbender Neo is so robust that it will even stand up to regular pressure washing.

The Hellbender BB is machined from 6061 – T6 aluminium with a two-stage anodize black and gold finish and is available in BSA threaded, PF41, PF30 and BB30 variations.
