Effetto Mariposa adds bio-friendly cleaners, degreasers and lubes

Effetto Mariposa has announced a broadening of its range to offer a concise line of cleaners, degreasers, a chain lube, chain cleaning tool and new cog brush.

The portfolio expansion has been undertaken with the environmental impact of these product categories in mind and, as such, the firm put to use some learnings from creating its plant-based Végétalex tyre sealant in the development of the goods.

The biodegradable bicycle cleaner Allpine Light comes to market with a pine scent and a chain clean that removes only contaminants, not the lubricant, apparently meaning there is no need to re-apply lube after a light wash down.

On the other hand, if the bike is very dirty, Allpine Light can perform a serious cleaning: generously spray Allpine Light all over the bike and wait a few minutes to let the product act. Then, rinse with plenty of water. A sponge or brush are recommended for an optimal result. Dry with a clean cloth.

Allpine Light is available in 1,000 ml bottles with trigger vaporizer at £14, or also as a “Recharge” 1,000 ml refill without the vaporizer at £11.

The chain degreaser is again biodegradable and comes with pine oil. it is described as an ideal preparation solution before applying a wax-based lubricant. It is capable of both a quick clean, or a deep clean if a chain is left covered in the solution. Once rinsed away the Allpine Extra formulation, which includes surfactants (i.e. soaps) of vegetable origin, means no oils remain.

Effetto Mariposa says: “In the development of Allpine Extra, besides effectiveness, we prioritized low ecological impact. The addition of pine oil, a solvent of natural origin, has proved invaluable for these purposes and Allpine Extra is rapidly biodegradable.”

Allpine Extra is harmless to chrome, painted parts and carbon, though a rinse is always advised. It can likewise be used to clean disc rotors. A 500ml bottle costs £16.

Effetto Mariposa also now has a lubricant under the FlowerPower Wax banner. This uses natural ingredients for high levels of performance and reliability, all this avoiding fluorinated compounds (PFAS), graphene and sulphides.

Flowerpower Wax is a water emulsion of natural waxy compounds at a 50% wax-to-water ratio. Despite the high wax content, it has the right viscosity to penetrate inside the chain links, where lubrication is most important. Once the water has evaporated, a thick layer of wax remains firmly anchored to the metal, creating a real anti-friction pad. The chain will not be dry to the touch – given the layer of wax that also protects the outside – but it will not be greasy or sticky and won’t retain dirt.
