Lidl free bike checks helped ‘hundreds’ on their bike during Worlds

Lidl GB told CyclingIndustry.News that its free bike check ups, run during the recent Glasgow UCI Cycling World Championships, were a big success, helping “hundreds of people back on their bikes”.

The grocer worked with The Bike Station’s Dr Bike team to offer customers free bike health checks and repairs during the Worlds, across its 20 Glasgow stores.

The project followed up a successful ‘one month to go’ free bike health check initiative held prior to the tournament.

Customers could find Dr Bike’s marquees within their local store car park, where they had access to a bike safety check-up from fully qualified mechanics. That included necessary basic fixes and maintenance advice.

A&E repairs included replacing worn brake pads, break and gear cables, as well as tightening headsets and adjusting gears. For anything more serious, customers were given a ‘Dr’s Note’ listing what’s needed to get their bike running smoothly again.

We hope some of the independent cycle retailers of Glasgow got to handle a few ‘Dr’s Notes’ to keep their workshops busy. Gearing up to capitalise on the unique recent Worlds has been a recurring theme, with brands opting to hold events around the races, as well as other non-core cycle industry organisations like Visit Scotland making the most of the Worlds.
