Orbea announces begining of CEO transition process

After 12 years as CEO of Orbea, Jon Fernandez has announced the beginning of the transition process through which Daniel Martínez will assume the position of CEO of the cooperative, starting next October.

Dani Martinez, current Orbea COO. Profile pictureDaniel Martínez has a degree in Economics from the University of the Basque Country and has been involved with Orbea since 1998. As is customary in the cooperative, throughout these 25 years he has held positions of responsibility in different areas, having held management positions in the areas of Logistics, Innovation and Operations, a position he currently holds.

Jon Fernandez comments: “When it comes to leading an organization, technical and emotional competencies to participate in the purpose of the company are just as important as understanding and sharing the ultimate purpose of the organization he represents. Daniel Martínez embodies both: he is a great professional who knows and understands the organization, the business and the people who make it up, and he has collaborated closely in defining our purpose. Therefore, I firmly believe that Daniel is the best person to propose the future challenges that Orbea will tackle with enthusiasm.”

“In a cooperative we are destined to fulfil the role that the organization asks of us. From this moment on, I will be in charge of giving continuity to a project that stands out for its ambition and in which we will continue to work to maintain the trust of the user community and distribution around the world. I face this challenge with great respect, enthusiasm and with the guarantee that comes from knowing the generosity and commitment of an outstanding team,” says Daniel Martínez.

In the remaining months until the handover takes place, both Daniel and Jon will work together to ensure its success at the social, distribution chain and cycling community levels. Orbea enters a new phase with new executive management, but the values remain unchanged: fighting for a fairer society, creating unique products and doing it with passion.

Ongoing growth. Future investment.

On the 6th of May Orbea held its annual general assembly, with the business highlighting that it has doubled the structure of its workforce in 3 years, and is now fast-tracking the recruitment of international talent.

With a workforce now totalling over 1,000 employees, 80% of whom are in posts created in the Basque Country, it was noted that the business has continued to generate employment with the aim of consolidating the company.

For the seventh year running the cooperative has confirmed notable sales growth, achieving a turnover of €400 million, with 85% on export markets. The result, after taxes, is 20% up on 2021, which has strongly boosted its equity.
