Spain bike production rises but lower bike prices impact turnover

Fresh statistics from Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism (via AMBE) revealed that Spain bike production output rose in 2024, with the number of bicycles made in Spain up to 309,000 – representing a 2.9% rise in units manufactured.

However, a reduction in the average price of a bike in Spain (a phenomenon mirrored through much else of the world) meant that production related turnover fell 2.2% in 2024.

The stats revealed the average price of a bike in Spain fell from €775 in 2023 to €725 in 2024.

The overall picture is very positive for Spain’s bicycle manufacturing sector. Compared to the years prior to the pandemic, turnover continues to practically double that of 2019. AMBE said the industry was proving “robust compared to pre-pandemic levels”.

As noted in the latest Bicycle Sector Report, prepared annually by AMBE and Cofidis, the sector’s turnover was €2,475 million in 2023, down 8.79% on the previous year. But industry turnover remains 32% above 2019 levels.

eBikes, gravel and road have been among the best performing areas, with MTB and urban providing a contrasting poor performance. We’ll likely have to wait a few months to get the 2024 figures, covering the full Spain cycle market.

CIN is currently putting together its own market data, focused on the UK, and independent bicycle retailers and workshops are invited to take part. In return, they’ll receive a complete market report upon publication, later in Q1.
