Wearable tech veteran Tom Fowler takes on Polar USA presidency

Polar USA has continued its high profile recruitment drive with the announcement that Tom Fowler has taken on the role of president.

Fowler comes to Polar from Intel, where he served as Director of Marketing and Sales, Head-Worn Devices. Previously he held leadership positions at smart eyewear pioneer Recon Instruments (acquired by Intel in 2015) and Cervelo Cycles, where he played instrumental roles in their evolution from start-up to cycling performance industry leader. With a deep understanding of product engineering and a fresh approach to retail and consumer marketing, Fowler powered Cervelo as it achieved a dominance that it still enjoys today.

“Polar’s heritage and global leadership provides a unique platform on which to write the next chapter in the sports performance industry,” says Fowler. “Polar is continuing to grow and drive innovation at the consumer level. The recent launch of the M600, Polar’s sports optimized smartwatch powered by Android Wear, reflects the next step in an ongoing product evolution. In addition to great products, Polar Flow has the ability to crunch data and provide training insights back to athletes that is unparalleled by any brand in the category. I’m excited to lead this next chapter and reinforce Polar’s leadership across all business channels.”

A former professional triathlete, Fowler lives and breathes the active consumer’s lifestyle. His personal understanding of their day-to-day training needs, coupled with his dynamic professional expertise across the endurance, outdoor and wearable tech industries, will provide an authentic strategic insight to Polar’s already strong leadership team.

Back in August CyclingIndustry.News interviewed new recruit Stan Brajer on the future of the wearable tech market, which he believes “will accelerate trade faster now than at any other time.”
