UK manufacturer of cargo trikes and pedicabs winds up business
UK designer and manufacturer of cargo trikes and pedicabs, Cycles Maximus, has appointed liquidators, according to filings.
One of very few to design and fabricate cargo bike products in the country, the business is one of the longest servants of the market segment, established back in 1997, well ahead of the marketplace’s quite recent lift. Cargo bike sales are in fact, at present, a standout of UK bike sales trends, with overall sales up 37% in the 12 months to May 2022.
In part thanks to its localised production, Cycles Maximus was a pioneer in modular design, offering four separate chassis setups, a trio of drive solutions and 11 separate modular bolt ons, most notably the CabTrike pedicabs solution and VanTrike options for carrying people and goods, respectively. The concept of modular design is now widely adopted and as such is a major pull for a variety of businesses looking to reduce their transport expenditure, plus emissions of fleets.
The Bath business had grown to become a net exporter too, shipping goods for use as far away as Australia, Canada, the USA and much of Europe. Clients ranged individuals to corporates seeking bespoke fleet solutions. These including solutions produced for logistics giants such as DPD and DHL, companies that have now pursued electric cargo bike trials with another UK manufacturer, EAV, profiled recently by CI.N.
Purnell’s Insolvency Practitioners will now manage liquidation process.
