Vanmoof pauses sales while reports indicate serious financial difficulties

“We have temporarily paused sales to catch up on the production and delivery of existing orders. Rest assured – this has no effect on servicing” – that’s the message currently showing on the Vanmoof website. However, widespread reports indicate that the company is now in some significant financial trouble.

Reuters yesterday said that VanMoof has filed for protection from creditors and has issued a statement confirming the filing. The court has appointed two administrators to oversee the company during the 60-day cooling down period.

The news may seem slightly unexpected, given Vanmoof was making headlines just weeks ago when it signed up KwikFit NL as a service partner. However, it emerged earlier this year that the company had previously brushed with collapse, with Dutch newspaper Financieele Dagblad revealing an urgent cash raise was sought by investors to guarantee the firm’s survival.
