Webinar series promotes value of cycling tourism to businesses
Businesses involved in tourism can benefit from a new 5 part series of webinars aimed at boosting the local cycling economy and attracting more visitors to the destination.
That’s the message from a new joint initiative, between Derbyshire County Council and Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, with the series of 5 webinars aimed at boosting the local cycling economy, helping local tourism businesses to be more competitive, gaining a greater understanding of the cycle tourism market.
- Leisure cycling tourism is worth up to €2.83 billion (€2.29bn day trips + €0.54bn overnight stays) to the UK economy, and increasing in value
“What cyclists want: Become a cycle friendly business, a business owner’s perspective” opens the 5 part series, with attendees hearing from Simon Kershaw, Brand and Development Director of Bike and Boot hotels, Andrew McCloy, Walks Programme Manager, YHA (England and Wales) and Carol Parsons, Cycling and Walking Networks Project Officer, Derbyshire County Council.
The Peak District and Derbyshire is one of the UK’s most popular cycling destinations and is a key driver of visitors to the destination. Derbyshire has over 260 miles of traffic-free cycle routes to explore. With options for road cycling, mountain biking or gentle traffic-free cycle trails, the region attracts visitors of all ages from both domestic and international markets.
The webinars are part of Derbyshire County Council’s ambition to make Derbyshire the most connected and integrated county for cycling in England.
- The 90-minute webinars will be held weekly from 20th September to 17th October 2023.
- Taking part in the 5 part webinar programme is free for visitor economy businesses (accommodation, attractions, activity providers, cafes, pubs, restaurants etc) based in Derbyshire.
