Award-winning Pealock security start up hopes to enter UK market

Pealock, an award-winning security device that is targeted at the bike, snow, scooter and numerous other markets, will enter the UK marketplace.

The Czech company, featured recently in Eurobike’s start up area, has just gone into production on the back of a successful crowdfund campaign concluded in 2020. Since that time the second generation device has received further backing from venture capital fund Nation 1 and 3D printer manufacturer Prusa Research, which invested 11 million Czech crowns in the project.

The device is one of a handful on the market building smart features into security and, with 90% of the company’s current customers said to be cyclists, the product is evolving around feedback from riders. The first two waves of production have already found their buyers; last year, the company managed to sell 3,000 units of the lock.

That feedback has led to a device that hosts several technological features that will make the day unpleasant even for the most inventive thief. The lock body has a motion sensor, integrated alarm, data plan with full-screen notifications and Bluetooth 5 technology for wireless connection to the application, a GPS module for tracking of your device, LED indicator of the lock status, and uses NFC technology to lock/unlock. This can be used by people who either do not own a smartphone or cannot use it. The second generation device has also upped its battery life.

Another important part of the lock is the strap with which the Pealock attaches to the protected object. Inside the strap, which is made of durable material, there are steel wires that prevent possible cutting and a wire that triggers a loud alarm in case of a cut and alerts the user to his phone.

Directly in the partnered application, it will be soon possible to arrange insurance for equipment, accounting for the smart security. In the Czech Republic Pealock currently has an agreement with two insurance companies – ČPP (Vienna Insurance Group) and AXA. Negotiations are ongoing with foreign insurance companies.

The new mobile application, which belongs indispensably to Pealock, displays notifications sent directly by the lock itself, you can monitor the battery status and manage other settings.

In addition, it is possible to manage multiple locks at once, within one application. For longer distances, the lock can automatically switch to a data plan and call the user. A SIM card is included in each package, and it is prepaid for 6 months. Then the user must pay an annual subscription fee which in Europe is €9. Payment is made via the Pealock app.

All production, including assembly, takes place in the Czech Republic.

The company is now targeting B2B partners. Any retailer that sells bicycles, skis, strollers or scooters is invited to get in touch. At the same time, the company’s website offers several language versions for expansion into new markets, such as Germany, UK, Austria, Benelux and Spain.
