Bafang launch new 500g lighter M510 mid-drive motor

Bafang has launched its new M510 mid-motor, a successor to the M500, aimed specifically at e-MTB applications.

95 Nm of torque, the same as the M500, is enhanced by a higher overall torque curve, which is clearly noticeable in extreme high cadence support, ideal for steep ramps which form a common part of technical ascending.

Interestingly, this improvement in performance also comes with a reduction in weight. To achieve this, “the rotor and the segmented stator were revised and a magnesium housing was constructed”, making the M510 a full 500g (18%) lighter, at 2.9Kg, than the M500, which weighs 3.4kg.

Bafang emphasises that, “the software for the starting characteristics has been optimized to provide a smoother and more controllable start. These characteristics allow for a better entry into short curves or crisp climbs.”

“Thanks to the high sensitivity of the torque sensor, the M510 can gauge the right amount of power according to the rider’s pedalling force, and dial in the appropriate assistance.”

As would be expected of most bike park focused rides, “the M510 is compatible with a common chain guard, (as it) has the same motor mount as the M500/M410.”

“The M510 motor is compatible with most of the products in the Bafang portfolio, such as the Intube battery, the displays DP E180/181 with a clean LED HMI, the optional upgraded color version DP C242 HMI, the hidden speed sensor with two different magnetic fixation solutions, and the upcoming new Bafang APP.”

By producing components in-house, Bafang is able to guarantee delivery times of 60 to 90 days.

Bafang motors can be found in the COREbike showcased Forestal e-MTB range, with the Cyon, Siryon, and Hydra now brought into the UK by Silverfish.
