BikeFlights.com donates $16,000 to non-profits

Bicycle shipping service BikeFlights.com has donated a total of $16,000 to four non-profit organisations: National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA), Trips for Kids, Little Bellas and the Amy D Foundation, through funds raised via its Buck Up for Bikes programme.

Representatives from each organisation accepted a $4,000 cheque during a presentation ceremony held at the Cyclocross National Championships near Tacoma, Washington, on Friday 13th December.

“Giving back to organisations that help get more kids, young adults and women on bikes is important to us,” said BikeFlights.com President William Alcorn. “We’re grateful and proud to have this opportunity to support the excellent work being done by NICA, Trips for Kids, Little Bellas and the Amy D Foundation.”

BikeFlights.com’s Buck Up for Bikes programme has raised and given out more than $63,000 since its inception in 2016.

Trips for Kids Executive Director, Robert Ping, said: “We are thrilled to be a recipient of the BikeFlights Buck Up for Bikes programme. Our partners at BikeFlights.com continue to support our efforts to get kids outside and active and earn bikes of their own. BikeFlights.com helps us to change lives, two wheels at a time.”

NICA President, Steve Matous, added: “NICA is incredibly grateful to be included in BikeFlights.com’s Buck Up for Bikes Programme. Their support is enabling us not only to get #morekidsonbikes across the country, but also help our student athletes, coaches and staff easily and safely transport their bikes around the country.”

The Buck Up for Bikes programme gives customers two options upon checkout when booking bike shipping online; the option to contribute a buck to any of the four non-profits, or to contribute a buck to each of them. BikeFlights.com collects and tracks all donations, and supplements collected contributions to cover the costs of administering a publicising the programme.

Back in July, BikeFlights.com celebrated its 10th anniversary, and a few months earlier hit the milestone of shipping 500,000 bikes since the company’s inception. It’s been a busy year for the shipping service, after announcing the launch of a new sustainability initiative to offset the carbon emissions resulting from its shipments in April.
