Mountain Mayhem makes a comeback under Pat Adams and Alex McNicol
Mountain Mayhem will make a comeback this year on June 18th, albeit in a non 24-hour format for the time being.
Returning to Martson Lodge, the event will be under the stewardship of Mountain Mayhem veteran Pat Adams, who has decided he’s not quite retired yet and Alex McNicol of PVS Events Ltd.
Pat said of both his and the event’s comeback: “Technically I’m meant to be retired now. I stepped away from Mountain Mayhem after the 20th edition back in 2017, to take things a little easier. However, it turns out I’m not all that good at taking things easy. It looked like it was going to be another year without a Mountain Mayhem and that just doesn’t seem right to us. So, Alex and I have stepped in to take back control and ownership of the event and bring it back in some form this year in preparation for a full-scale return in 2023. 2023 will be the 25th anniversary of the event that changed the face of mountain biking in the UK. Surely that deserves a big celebration!”
For the time being the 2022 the reacquisition has not left the pair with enough time to plan a round the clock event. For those who will only show for an endurance event there will be a Mayhem.25 one-off event organised as a precursor to the 25th anniversary outing next year. This will be a smaller event, but one with many of the ingredients of the full event, notably racing, campsites, a charity raffle and catching up with friends not seen since before Covid kicked off.
The race format at Mayhem.25 will offer up a six-hour cross country race for both pairs and solo riders, as held on the same course as usual. This will take place on Saturday June 18th.
“The course we built at Marston Lodge in 2019 went down an absolute treat with the riders. The feedback was that it was truly a great mix of trails and tracks perfectly suited for this kind of race. Plus, the Marston Lodge estate is a really stunning location and a great place to spend the weekend, so we are delighted to be back there again,” said Alex McNicol, the Event Director.
