New directory lists businesses using cargo bikes to trade

A new business directory targeted at helping consumers choose environmentally friendly cargo bikes as part of the delivery service has begun racking up numbers at Brought by Bike.

Hundreds of listings are already prominent on the directory and it’s a diverse bunch too with plumbers, breweries, florists, gardeners and food delivery well-represented.

Trading via cargo bike is no longer the preserve of small businesses, in fact yesterday Brit maker of the large-volume bikes EAV revealed postal giant FedEx to be among its new customers. The business also holds trials with fellow logistics goliath DHL, as well as the Asda supermarket.

The directory has scored a range of media coverage, including being linked in a Guardian story this week detailing the rise of the cargo bike. Founder Helena Downey told the site “Over the course of the pandemic, the rise of businesses using e-cargo bikes for deliveries has been breathtaking. The rise is so dramatic that this could become mainstream.”

Electric cargo bikes have been found in various studies to be vastly more efficient than vans in urban spaces, not to mention more environmentally sound, which has become a factor consumers are weighing in to their purchasing decisions.

Furthermore, Raleigh revealed that in working with a number of businesses ranging construction firms through to the national trust, the money savings are pronounced; some saving up to 90%.

So pronounced are the efficiencies against van deliveries, the investment world has thrown its weight behind specialist businesses like Zedify and PedalMe.
