Pinion gearbox adds electronic shifting function, Stromer on board
Pinion has announced Stromer as the launch partner of a now electronically shifted gearbox, with power drawn from the eBike battery.
Now handled at the touch of a button on the new E-Trigger, the system is able to shift in 0.2 seconds while under load or stationary; the starting gear can be pre-selected thanks to the integrated shift indicator in the E-bike display.
“We are shifting into the future! The Stromer ST7 with the electric Pinion Smart.Shift technology takes shifting performance to the next level. In close cooperation with Stromer, we succeeded in realising a complete system integration including power supply from the eBike battery, as well as indication of the Smart.Shift settings and gear information in the eBike display via CAN bus,” says Friedemann Böhmler, Project Lead Smart.Shift, Pinion GmbH
Initially, Pinion Smart.Shift is only available in conjunction with C-line gearboxes. Smart.Shift gearboxes differ in their internal structure from P- and C-line gearboxes; for this reason retrofitting the Smart.Shift is neither possible, nor permitted.
Pinion was founded in 2008 by two former Porsche engineers, Christoph Lermen and Michael Schmitz. Every Pinion gearbox is Made in Germany, with development, design, construction, serial production, sales and service taking place at their modern Denkendorf headquarters just outside of Stuttgart.
The gearbox specialists have been among those drivetrain alternative suppliers that have benefitted from supply fluctuations since the pandemic began. To read more on that, head here.
