Raleigh Centros eBike line gets range and capability boost

The Raleigh Centros eBike range, known as the ‘do it all’ option in the firm’s electric catalogue, has been revamped with a larger battery and a switch from 700c wheels to 650B, offering more control on off-road segments.

One of the MY19 product launches, the Centros has been popular with the marketplace thanks to its ‘all-rounder’ suitability. That’s now enhanced with a new and bigger Bosch Powertube battery to sit alongside the Bosch Performance Line Motor. Whereas the old version offered an impressive 500WH, the new model provides 625WH of electric assistance.

That, theoretically, enables up to 130-miles of assisted riding per charge and that’s before a range extender is added into the mix. Guiding the rider through the modes, Bosch’s Purion Display lets the rider switch between four different modes. This handlebar-handy unit also gives riders eyes on their speed, battery life and remaining range.

Electrics aside, the wheel switch comes paired with 55c Schwalbe Marathon Almotion tyres, Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes and a suspension seatpost; all of these features equating to a bike that’s happy on gravel paths and light off road stretches.

Adding to the features list, the Raleigh Centros comes kitted out for the commute with full SKS mudguards, a Racktime rear carrier, integrated rear light, built-in rear-wheel lock and kickstand as standard. Raleigh continues to use Shimano gearing on both models, using an Altus 9 speed system on the rear derailleur model, and a Nexus 8 speed on the hub gear.

Whilst the range has been simplified to four different models, Raleigh have increased the sizes available to cater for a wider range of riders – adding in an extra small (40cm) frame for the low step frame. With the bikes now coming in Ocean Blue, Mint/Champagne, Khaki and Silver/Mint colourways, riders can be confident riding a bike that matches function with form.
