Specialized introduces P Series bikes in 4 wheel sizes
Specialized is back in the dirt jump game with the brand announcing an all new 4 bike P Series line up.
Bikes running 20′, 24′, 26′ and 27.5 wheel sizes, with 26 inch and 27.5 interchangeable, as well as having the option to fit up to 100mm travel suspension fork.
Of the 27.5 inch P4, the brand states “We saw the clear need for a larger frame size in the line up, and something that feels more like a mountain bike rather than a classic DJ bike. The P.4 will fit taller riders who want a roomier feel on the bike, or any rider that is looking for a familiar ride feel to their trailbike. Plus there are the added benefits of the faster rolling, larger wheels and the abundance of aftermarket 27.5” wheels and tyres available that makes custom frame up builds easy.”
Regarding the swap between 26′ and 27.5 wheel sizes; “The P.3 and P.4 frames will both fit either 26” or 27.5” wheels. Keep in mind that the BB height will change as there is no geo adjust features on this frame outside of the adjustable sliding dropout. Also, depending on tire size, you may not be able to achieve the full range of adjustment if you are sizing up to a 27.5” wheel on P.3. Lastly, swapping to the appropriately sized front fork is recommended if changing from the spec’d wheel size.”
Specialized also points out that, “the adoption of a boost-spaced rear end – for added stiffness and durability – ensured that even notorious wheel destroyer, Nicholi Rogatkin, could complete a Crankworx Slopestyle series with wheels intact and on top of the podium. The boost hub also enhances precision and rigidity, providing extra comfort for those pushing their limits.” In addition to this, “the new drop-out design offers extensive customization options with 15mm of adjustment for both geared and single-speed setups, ensuring chain tensioning and stability.”
All P.Series models include a derailleur hanger and narrow/wide front chainring compatible with most 9, 10 and 11spd drivetrains.
- P.1 specifically has a traditional rear hub with an HG driver body so that a cassette can be easily installed.
- P.2, 3 and 4, use a Single Speed rear hub that will not work with a cassette. In this case, a new hub or complete rear wheel would be required to install a geared drivetrain.
