SRAM acquires Hammerhead, maker of the Karoo 2 cycling computer
SRAM has today announced Hammerhead will join its portfolio of brands, with a transaction which completed on December 30, 2021.
Hammerhead will continue to develop its award-winning Karoo 2 cycling GPS computer line, and will remain a stand-alone brand within the SRAM portfolio, allowing the brand to continue to build upon its innovative product. The Karoo 2 had previously drawn investment from Chris Froome.
With the established range of wireless AXS components, SRAM now adds to the portfolio a GPS head unit from which to deliver a fully integrated product offering, whilst also confirming that Hammerhead will continue to seamlessly integrate with a wide variety of existing hardware and software products and services, including both Shimano and SRAM electronic shifting.
“The brand fit is seamless, and they are driven by the same principles as SRAM, which is innovation that improves the cycling experience. We are excited at what the future holds,” said SRAM CEO, Ken Lousberg.
Pieter Morgan, CEO and co-founder of Hammerhead says, “Hammerhead has always been focused on building the world’s best cycling computer. Joining the SRAM portfolio allows us to innovate and expand even more rapidly, and ultimately deliver a better riding experience for cyclists.”
This most recent acquisition follows the securing of Time pedals, in February of 2021, a move which left one piece of the puzzle missing. With Hammerhead added, SRAM now offers suspension, wheels, drive train components and full groupsets, power meters, and now GPS computer units, thus completing the portfolio.
