Strava announces first-of-its-kind integration with Spotify

Strava has announced a new in-app integration with Spotify, which enables users to seamlessly stream music, podcasts and audiobooks while recording activities on Strava.

The new integration enables users to play, pause, resume, skip and browse Spotify favourites from the record screen on Strava, removing the need for Spotify free and Premium users to switch between apps, and allows users to easily tap into the musical motivation which gets them moving.

As a result, Spotify users can listen to their own carefully selected workout playlists, with high bpm tunes powering their Stava QOM / KOM smashing rides – soundtracks for segments making your leaderboard challenge all the more motivating.

Mateo Ortega, Strava Partnerships, profile picture“Over time, the consumption of music has evolved dramatically from CDs to streaming, which has opened the door for audio to inspire us in ways it couldn’t before,” said Mateo Ortega, Strava’s Vice President of Connected Partnerships. “We’re excited to partner with a global leader like Spotify to seamlessly integrate music and movement on the platform. This new feature further solidifies Strava’s position at the center of connected fitness and continues to demonstrate the power of the global community of active people on Strava.

Ian Geller, Sportify, profile pictureIan Geller, VP of Business Development at Spotify says, “One of our biggest goals at Spotify is to be everywhere our listeners are – whether that’s on a run, in the gym, or anyplace in between. This integration with Strava is another way we’re moving with our listeners and allowing them to seamlessly connect to the music and audio they love.”

Starting on April 20th, Strava is taking over the widely popular “Workout” playlist on Spotify; a Strava-curated selection of tunes to help get you moving. The “Workout” playlist can be found here.

This latest upgrade to the Strava offering comes hot on the heals of January’s announcement that the business had acquired 3D mapping biz Fatmap.
