Bosch to invest in Slovakian eBike drive plant with 2023 production

Bosch eBike Systems has been confirmed in Slovakian press to be moving forward with an investment that will up its eBike motor output in Europe.

Set to be ready for production late next year, the plant will directly employ around 400, but with the capacity to influence far greater job creation in the region.

The Slovakian Economy Ministry welcomed the German company, with Minister for the Economy Karel Hirman stating: “I am glad that we have good news for Slovakia in the time of the energy crisis. A strong investor like Bosch chose eastern Slovakia for its further development. I believe that it will have a long-term positive impact on the entire region, while it is a manufacturing sector, which is also very welcome from the point of view of sustainability in Slovakia.”

Bosch chose Slovakia having looked at various options across Europe and will now rent a premises with an exact location being narrowed down at present. Previously the Záborské, Prešov Region has been touted as a place of interest.

It is believed that a close proximity to a qualified employee base is attractive, as well as being within easy reach of the group plant for components in Miškovec, Hungary, which is approximately 130 km away.

The investment would be a third for the Bosch group in Slovakia, which has two other facilities near Bratislava.

CyclingIndustry.News will in our next print edition carry an interview with Bosch eBike Systems CEO Claus Fleischer who has again described the key levers to unlock a new growth burst and the obstacles in supply that are still causing some problems in the bike industry.
