CeramicSpeed updates Solid Lubrication Technology bearings with lifetime warranty

CeramicSpeed has published an update on its Solid Lubrication Technology (SLT), adding a lifetime warranty to a product it is now sure can remain contaminant free.

Updating the industry on the products’ progress the brand describes the finished product as maintenance free, self-lubricating and corrosion resistant; qualities that lend to the expanded warranty confidence. The bearing system is constructed in such a way that axial play is also eliminated, making the system ideal for harsher uses such as mountain biking where bearings can be prone to faster wear.

Some of the lab test results have been written about in detail here, where CeramicSpeed writes: “After 200.000 cycles the ‘market leader bearing’ began showing visible signs of deterioration, and after 600.000 cycles the bearing was clearly worn-out. Actually a respectable performance, but in comparison, our OPD SLT Bearing ran well over 1.800.000 cycles without failure or any critical visible wear.

“In the lab and out on the trails we’ve done our very best to push these bearings to failure, but our efforts have ultimately been unsuccessful.”

The innovation works thanks to micropores present in a solid polymer that evenly distribute just enough oil to the bearing for lubrication. An outer seal makes it impossible for contaminants to find a way in. CeramicSpeed say that should water find its way in the stainless steel material of the bearing races and balls would eliminate any concern of corrosion.

The brand has received endorsements on the products from brand leaders, Rob Gitelis, owner at Factor Bikes offering on the OHD headset product: “With the advent of internal cable routing on road bikes, the demands on the longevity of headsets have become critical. After thoroughly testing CeramicSpeed SLT Headsets under the most demanding of conditions, and validating at the World Tour, we were convinced that these headsets should be included on Factor bikes.”
