Estarli upgrades award-winning e28.X with 3-speed system
Estarli has launched an updated e28.X with a new 3-speed configuration, which is now available alongside the existing 2-speed option – giving riders a “broader, more natural experience across varied terrain without compromising the bike’s defining lightweight simplicity”, said the brand.
The e28.X remains lightweight for its class, weighing comfortably under 20kg. Estarli has also introduced a new dummy battery plate, allowing riders to use the bike in non-electric mode or reduce weight for transport, while maintaining a clean, weatherproof finish.
“The Estarli Cycle System in this new model is the most advanced we’ve developed,” explained co-founder Alex Francis. “The additional gear does add a small weight increase – around half a kilo – but the benefits more than justify it. What was already an intuitive system on the 2-speed model has now evolved into one that makes riding on almost any incline feel natural. We’ve also introduced the option for customers to configure their gearing, allowing for a lower cadence ride if preferred.”
The update plays into Estarli’s focus on accessibility and versatility: a new adjustable stem improves fit across a wider range of riders, reinforcing the e28.X’s position as a one-size solution. The bike is available in both step-through and crossbar frames, with options including straight or Dutch-style handlebars, as well as front and seatpost suspension configurations.
Belt-driven
Core to the e28.X is its belt-driven, automatic system, designed to remove friction from everyday riding. Co-founder Oliver Francis said: “I fell in love with belt drives from the first moment I saw one and we’re proud to have introduced the feature on our hybrids and folders a few years ago. The system on the e28.X allows me to ride exactly how I want to – fuss free. That’s something we hear again and again from customers, and it’s clearly how more and more people want to ride.”
That simplicity, combined with its lightweight and agile design, has made the e28.X a popular choice for both commuters and leisure riders, the brand said, setting it apart from heavier, more complex alternatives. Estarli added that the model has also gained traction with fleet operators and bike hire companies, where ease of use and reliability are critical: “Its ‘get-on-and-go’ design, integrated lighting, and removable battery—allowing for efficient off-bike charging—make it particularly well suited to guided tours and high-frequency use environments.”
