Ex UCI president Hein Verbruggen passes away

Hein Verbruggen, the president of the Union Cycliste Internationale from 1991 to 2005, has sadly passed away.

Aside from holding the reigns at the UCI, Verbruggen was also previously a member of the International Olympic Committee and chairman of the Coordination Commission for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing in 2008.

Verburggen remained “honorary president” of the UCI since his 2005 succession by Pat McQuaid.

The  75-year-old Dutchman had been suffering from Leukaemia.
