Recall: Trek Aeolus RSL VR-C bars and bikes including

Trek has announced a global recall of the Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C handlebar and stem combo, which aside from affecting the products itself, also has onward ramifications for bikes on which it is specced.

The recall comes in tandem with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which has put the notice out in the public domain warning of the handlebar’s propensity to crack which, needless to say, presents a crash hazard. To date, 37 reports of broken handlebars have been recorded, including one that resulted in injury.

Those affected by the recall can now head for their local authorised Trek stockist for a free replacement of the potentially defective, Chinese manufactured handlebars.

Affected by the notice are about 3,200 bicycles, plus 900 aftermarket handlebar stems (In addition, about 530 bicycles/115 aftermarket handlebar/stems in Canada). The bike models included in the recall’s scope are the MY22 Speed Concept SLR bicycles, plus MY 21 and MY 22 Emonda SLR bicycles.
