Shimano to set up own distribution in Spain

Shimano is to terminate its partnership with its Spanish distributor, opting to shortly begin handling trade enquiries directly through the newly set up Shimano Iberia.

Effective as of December 31st 2020, Shimano will operate its own sales, distribution and marketing for Spain via the new Madrid headquarters, which will host around 50 employees.

The fishing tackle business will start up ahead of the cycling arm, getting to work from 1st July 2020. The start of the bike business is planned for the 1st January 2021.

Shimano Europe President Marc van Rooij, “sincerely thanks to Macario Llorente for their continued support and all the efforts they did for the development of the Shimano brand across Spain.”

Macario´s President Miguel A. Llorente said, “I am very proud of the work done by the Macario team during more than 31 years as Shimano’s distributor. We will make sure that during this transition, the good service to the Spanish market will be maintained.”

Eduardo Roldan will become Managing Director of Shimano Iberia. He also continues to be Managing Director of Shimano Italy Bicycle Components S.R.L and Shimano Italy Fishing S.R.L.

Earlier this year Shimano did announce that it would revisit its supply chain structure on the back of turbulence attached to the Covid-19 crisis.

“Like all the other manufacturing companies, we want to take this opportunity to revisit our supply chain,” said CEO, Yozo Shimano, at the time.
