Woman dies after collision with e-bike rider

After fighting for her life for 2 weeks in hospital, a 56 year old woman is thought to be the first person in the UK to die after being struck by an electric bike. She was involved in a collision while attempting to cross Kingsland High Street, Dalston, just after 5pm on 28 August.

The 30 year old male rider was also injured in the collision but was able to walk away. He is seen in CCTV footage published by a national newspaper carrying his damaged bike along the pavement. He appears to ignore offers of assistance and pleas from witnesses to remain at the scene.

His pedal assist bike was later found abandoned a mile away in Approach Close in Stoke Newington. Police later arrested him on suspicion of causing bodily harm, failing to stop and failing to report a collision. He has since been released under investigation.
