Co-founder of India’s largest bicycle maker passes away

Satyanand Munjal, a founding member of Hero Cycles, has passed away, aged 99.

Known by friends and industry colleagues as ‘Mahatma’, Munjal is survived by six children – five sons and a daughter.

Hero Cycles of India was established in 1944 by Munjal and his brothers and has since grown to become one of the world’s largest bicycle manufacturers. The business has been growing at a rapid rate in recent times, having acquired UK distributor Avocet Sports and a majority stake in Sri-Lankan bike maker BSH Ventures.
