ECI social media campaign highlights benefits of cycling to work
European Cycling Industries (ECI) has launched a social media campaign to promote the benefits of cycling for daily commuting.
The campaign, #ICycleToWork, highlights the benefits of cycling, including reducing energy consumption, lowering transport costs, improving physical and mental well-being, and helping people arrive at work more focused and productive.
To highlight these benefits, ECI has launched the campaign with five video testimonials from Members of the European Parliament, including EP Vice President Martin Hojsik, who share why they choose to cycle to work and how it benefits their daily lives.
The platform is designed as a growing collection of perspectives. Alongside the initial testimonials, it provides an opportunity for others to contribute their own stories and help demonstrate the many benefits of cycling as an everyday mode of transport.
Currently, 54% of short-distance trips are completed by private car in the European Union, but many of these journeys are short enough to be made by bicycle, according to ECI.
ECI added that Europe is “dangerously dependent” on fossil fuel imports to support its fuel-dependent transport system amid geopolitical volatility. Although much of the debate has focused on how technological advancements can alleviate the pressure, other mobility choices should also have a role to play.
