Forest records strongest eBike demand of 2026 during heatwave
A sharp rise in eBike usage was recorded during the May bank holiday weekend, according to London-based eBike operator Forest.
The company reported a 23% increase in rides between 22 and 27 May compared with the previous week, with 26 May recording the highest number of rides so far this year.
Forest said the increase was particularly evident across several high-demand locations, including Shepherd’s Bush Station, Dean Square in Soho, Long Acre in Covent Garden, Colliers Wood Station and Hammersmith Station, which emerged as some of the most popular destinations during the warm-weather weekend.
“This new data shows that Londoners want to travel in ways that are more convenient, sustainable and allow them to spend more time outdoors,” said Will Jansen, COO of Forest. “This increase in rides isn’t just a one-off; it is part of a wider shift towards cycling across London and demonstrates how shared eBikes are becoming a crucial part of the capital’s transport mix.”
To meet the surge in demand, Forest’s rebalancing team increased efforts to position bikes at key locations across the city, helping to ensure availability even in the busiest areas during the peak holiday period.
Months ago, Forest secured renewed B Corp certification, demonstrating that it meets the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. In the latest certification, valid through to December 2028, Forest achieved a score of 99. In 2022, the company was first certified with a score of 98.5. Forest said the result reflects its approach to governance, its commitment to stakeholders and its positive impact on communities and the environment.
Last year, Forest alsov expanded its Cycle to Work Scheme by adding Enjoy Benefits as a new partner. Enjoy Benefits is an employee benefits partner for companies. This partnership aims to help employees across London “adopt transport methods that are more sustainable, ease road congestion and promote healthier lifestyles”.
