Knipex plans to make the cut in UK cycle industry with Chicken

Knipex may be a hand tool manufacturer with a century-plus heritage of producing quality tools, but it has not made a significant push into the UK cycling industry – until now.

As visitors to Core Bike will have already seen, the German manufacturer is partnering with Chicken Cycle Kit to bring its workshop tools to bike shop mechanics and cyclists alike.

Knipex joins fellow German hand tool brand Wera as part of the Chicken portfolio, another name better known outside the cycling industry.

To mark the launch, Knipex is running a competition online, where visitors can win one of 20 Wire & Cable Cutters, pitched as ideal for hands-on cyclists and mechanics, featuring two crimping dies for end caps on Bowden cable sheaths and end ferrules for traction cables. The competition landing page will highlight some of KNIPEX’s key products for the cycling sector, including information on where to buy them.

“KNIPEX is thrilled to be joining the UK cycling community and looks forward to introducing its high-quality, innovative tools to the market,” said David Barnes, Knipex UK’s Marketing Manager.

Gary Turner, Sales Director at Chicken CycleKit, added: “We are excited to introduce KNIPEX to the cycling industry. They are a brand that many already know and have used for home or trade projects. We are thrilled at the prospect of being able to help them develop cycling specific products using their expert knowledge of tools.”

The KNIPEX cycling product range includes the Pliers Wrench (86 03 250), for gripping, bending and cutting, the High Leverage Diagonal Cutters (74 01 200) for cutting brake and gear cable housing, the 78 03 125 Electronic SuperKnips for fine cutting jobs and the KNIPEX Wire Cutters (95 62 190).

Knipex is a family-owned, fourth generation company, founded in manufacturing hotbed Wuppertal-Cronenberg, Germany in 1882. Pliers are its main trade and it produces more than 59,000 products every day, reaching customers in over 142 countries. Knipex employs more than 1,500 workers on its Wuppertal site, and the Knipex Group, with all subsidiaries, employs more than 2,500 workers in total.
