Pinarello launches new flagship Dogma X endurance bike
Pinarello has announced the launch of its new flagship endurance road bike, the Dogma X, whilst also extending its X Series endurance range.
With the Dogma X, Pinarello states it has designed and delivered a more accessible ride experience, specifically aimed at those who enjoy long days in the saddle. In plan speak this means a bike that is shorter in reach and taller in stack height; good news for anyone who isn’t a WorldTour Pro.
As is the case for the majority of the industry, messaging around endurance geometry is now clearly emphasizing that an accessible, posturally low stress, position means the large majority of riders will go faster for longer, delivering something which most will experience a significant, tangible, benefit from.
The geometry chart provided as part of the launch material does suggest, across a range of sizes, a bike with stack and reach figures in the ballpark of a Cannondale Synapse, which would certainly make for a Pinarello with very accessible ride position.
The Dogma X features new X-Stays, which the brand describes as, ‘capable of absorbing vibrations, maintaining a light weight frame, (delivering) a very reactive BB stiffness, and unprecedented tyre clearance’. We’re not sure that 35mm is ‘unprecedented’, however will accept that it is larger than on any previous road focused Pinarello.
Engineering comfort via carbon fibre layup and tube shapes, rather than suspension like components, means the Toray carbon constructed Dogma X, in a size 53, has a Pinarello stated frame weight of 950g and 400g for the fork.
Exploring the X-Stays concept
By doubling the attachment points Pinarello states that the top stays disperse forces on two points of the seat tube, further reducing vibration transfer to the cyclist’s back. Based around what is said to be a carefully chosen carbon fibre layup, combined with a reduced diameter in the curved top stays, the brand claims this combination dampens vibrations whilst increasing lateral stiffness, whilst also compensating for the elongation of the chain stays needed to deliver that 35mm tyre clearance. Over to you Hambini to explain the engineering behind this.
A wider range of X
Pinarello has also bolstered its X Series endurance range with the launch of the X9, X7 and X5 in addition to the X3 – as a SRAM Rival AXS or Shimano 105 Di2 build, and X1 – a mechanical 105 option, that were released earlier this year.
Again, rather than focusing solely on performance, the X Series is said to perfectly complement the Dogma X, being specifically designed to maximise rider comfort and vibration absorption, thanks to the innovative use of carbon fibre layup and a redesigned rear triangle.
In the UK, a network of 40 retailers, and a pair of brand stores, currently service customers in a way which matches the expectations of the brand. At this time Richard Hemington, UK MD, highlights that conversations are starting up again with regards potential new locations.
