Riese & Müller withdraws from US & strengthens focus on European core

Premium manufacturer of eBikes and cargo bikes Riese & Müller has announced it will cease its business activities in the United States as of 31 July 2026, following an extensive strategic and economic assessment and, specifically “the persistently challenging and increasingly volatile market conditions in the United States”.

The business said it will be placing an even stronger focus on its European core markets in the future, concentrating resources on further developing its European sales and dealer network to unlock market potential in core regions, deepen collaboration with retail partners and strengthen the company’s market position in a sustainable way. Other overseas markets, such as Canada, Australia and New Zealand, are not affected by this decision.

“Given the current circumstances, it is more important than ever for us to focus our efforts on our core markets and strategically bundle our capacities,” said Dr. Sandra Wolf, CEO of Riese & Müller.

Timo Gührer, Chief Sales Officer, added: “We extend our sincere thanks to our U.S. dealer partners for their outstanding commitment, passion and many years of trusted collaboration. Our heartfelt thanks also go to our U.S. customers for their long-standing loyalty to Riese & Müller.”

As part of its withdrawal from the US market, Riese & Müller will support its long-standing dealer partners with a transparent and structured transition. Existing customers will continue to receive reliable support, including the provision of spare parts for Riese & Müller eBikes and cargo bikes. Even after sales end, dealers will retain access to components, technical documentation, and support services. All existing warranty obligations will remain in full effect and will continue to be fulfilled.

Orders for Riese & Müller eBikes and cargo bikes can still be placed by US dealers until 31 July 2026. After this date, new product orders will no longer be accepted; available products at US dealers will remain on sale while supplies last.

There’s been a degree of market volatility since the second coming, or term, of President Trump. On-off tariffs are one area that has made life for many businesses difficult not least in terms of planning – as Silca publicly explained last year – and seems likely to have been a factor in Riese & Müller’s US withdrawal.
