“Sustainable-centric products to dominate TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards”

Innovation in the cycling industry is continuing at pace, despite the market’s difficulties, with Taipei Cycle teasing the winners of this year’s TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards as part of the build up to this year’s show, starting 3 March 2024.

The TAIPEI CYCLE d&i award winners will be officially revealed at this year’s show, but the organisers have revealed that this time around there has been more focus on products with sustainable leanings than previously.

There have been more submissions for the awards this year too, nearing 150 from 12 countries. 47 have been selected as winners and the top seven recognised for their outstanding achievements in cycle design. The Gold Award – Startup was presented to the best newcomer in the industry, while the Gold Award – Green Prize (introduced in ’23) given to a product demonstrating exceptional green product development. That first Green Prize was last year won by Gouach, a micromobility-focused repairable battery aiming to challenge “planned obsolescence of batteries” in the eBike sector.

Taipei Cycle is clearly pushing the sustainability angle hard, announcing that sustainability (and eBikes) will be at the fore this year. That fits with our findings on the ground – last year cycle journo Werner Müller-Schell found that green products were among the trends in the halls of Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre.

This year’s TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards jury consisted of of Bob Sung (UL GmbH, Taiwan branch), Johnson Wu (Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center, Taichung), Henry Chang (Gearlab, Taiwan), Kimberly Lin (Taiwan Mountain Biking Association, Taiwan), Georg Todtenbier (e*thirteen components, Germany), Irfan Kachwalla (Logitech, India), Henrik Jeppesen (HJ Consulting, Denmark) and Craig Dent (RiDE-studios, United Kingdom). They came together at the Taipei World Trade Centre to assess the entries in person, meticulously examining the designs and technical advancements of every project.
