Wendy Morton Replaces Heaton-Harris in Transport role

Wendy Morton has replaced Chris Heaton-Harris as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Department for Transport, handing her some steering of active travel policy in England.

An MP since 2015, Morton has since held roles as the Assistant Government Whip, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the Ministry of Justice, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Development, as well as most recently Minister for Europe and Americas at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office.

The change was triggered by the departure of Lord Frost departing his role as Brexit minister, prompting a reshuffle that saw Chris Heaton-Harris moved into a Minister for Europe position and deputy to the Foreign Secretary.

Wendy Morton does not appear to have any noteworthy history aligned with active travel and amongst her voting record there are no notable points on active transport. There is, however, one indicative vote on transport emissions, on which Morton voted not to have the Government develop and implement a plan to eliminate the vast majority of transport emissions by 2030.
