CyclingIndustry.News recruits Simon Cox to staff writer role

CyclingIndustry.News is pleased to announce an expansion of our in-house editorial team with the appointment of Simon Cox to the role of Staff Writer.

simon coxSimon brings to the team a wealth of experience gained inside and outside of the bike industry, both in the UK and overseas. Better still, as well as having an enthusiasts’ eye trained on how cycling as a transport form is coming to the fore, Simon’s a cyclist himself. Among other achievements he completed the 2015 and 2018 Ride Across Britain, as well as 2017 Paris to Geneva ride.

Simon has worked at bike retail, giving him a first-hand understanding of CyclingIndustry.News’ audience and within these roles he has written content for a handful of industry labels. He has also been a bike commuter and, on the other end of the cycling spectrum, also a 20 hour a week athlete when training for larger rides.

His professional highlights include researching, developing, and pitching a cycling event concept to facilitation partners and potential sources of venture capital; Delivering an event celebrating the 25th birthday of an iconic British cycling retailer; Hosting a World Record breaking cyclist, drawing a venue capacity crowd for a talk which sold out in 72 hours and playing a small part in the opening of a new Rapha clubhouse location.

Based in the prime cycling country of Harrogate, Simon will be CI.N’s voice in the north of England.

He said of his appointment: “I am extremely fortunate to be joining Cycling Industry News at such a pivotal moment. I’ve an active interest in cycling as transport, watching policy, planning, and funding developments as the UK looks to transition toward a dedicated active transport infrastructure model well proven across multiple countries within and beyond the EU.

“Riding a bike in 2021 is a vote for the environment, and our future built environment. In a globally interconnected economy, active transport is central to health, wellness, productivity, and competitiveness.

“Our industry has a once in a generation opportunity to directly influence a seismic shift in UK transport and cycling culture, with potential for impact across wider society and the economy.”

CyclingIndustry.News’ Editor Mark Sutton said of the moves to strengthen the title: “Thanks to the pandemic, CyclingIndustry.News skirted right past our fifth year trading without fanfare. With this milestone behind us and our audience having grown consecutively with each passing year now is the time to bolster the depth of our content and available resource.

“Simon’s varied experience and obvious enthusiasm for cycling’s role as a vehicle for change stood out in our recruitment process. I now look forward to working closely with him to develop CyclingIndustry.News further and very much welcome the presence of somebody with an ear to the ground in the North of the UK.”

Simon takes on the position from January 4th and will be contactable from that date by email here.
