Heady predictions for eBike charging station market to pass $18 billion by 2033

We’re not proposing bike shops get into eBike charging stations (but also, that’s a thought?) however it does seem to be a market gathering some momentum.

EV charging infrastructure is generally seen to be lagging in the UK and a hinderance to uptake in electric car ownership. Lack of eBike charging infrastructure has not been, arguably, pinpointed as a key obstacle to eBike uptake – usually eBike obstacles are lumped in with general hindrances to cycling, eg a lack of well designed and well located segregated bike lanes.

Nevertheless, Bosch signed a deal with Sustrans to provide eBike charging for the National Cycle Network and we’re hearing about more eBike-relevant charging stations cropping up in the UK, most recently in Manchester.

A report this week, from market researcher Research Nester, sees the eBike charging station market as a significant grower, set to cross USD $18 billion by 2033, in terms of revenue. That’s a significant rise over the value of the market’s revenue in 2022 (USD $3 billion), growing at a CAGR of over 20%.

The report reckons approximately 125 million electric bike will to be sold worldwide between 2020 and 2023 – and 38 million units in 2023 (at revenue of USD $19 billion).

While we have limited access to the report, the key takeaways include that the fastest growth will be seen in the Asia Pacific region, with fastest pace growth expected for the dockless segment.

Players established in the market include the aforementioned Bosch, as well as EV Charging Solutions, Inc. dba EVCS, Tritium DCFC Limited, MEGAtimer GmbH – bike-energy, EVBox, Swiftmile, Inc., Rolec Services Limited, FreeWire Technologies, Inc., Get Charged, Inc., and Parkent Cycles Inc. We’re not sure if any of those are offering a bike shop friendly charging station – maybe that’s for a future article.
