Yamaha launches new platform to forge closer links with OEM eBike partners
Major supplier of eKits Yamaha has revealed new developments that will help it forge even closer links with eBike manufacturers in the European marketplace to develop future eBikes.
Yamaha’s PWseries drive units are light, compact and powerful, noted for seamless acceleration and high levels of reliability, the firm said, and the company’s range of displays and batteries offers OEM eBike manufacturers options for MTB, gravel and urban applications.
Now, Yamaha is working with a new platform based on CAN-Open communication standard, including the exchange of Electronic Data Sheet. PW-LINK actively links the solutions between Yamaha and its many partners, giving OEM brands an active voice in the co-development of future eBike models. By enabling an even closer working relationship with industry partners, the new PW-Link System has the potential to enhance the functionality of each solution and represents a significant move forward.
Working as a fully integrated partner with each individual OEM brand, Yamaha said it is in a unique position to offer tailor-made solutions that have the potential to transform the new model development process, as well as increase efficiency and reduce lead times from prototype to production.
Yamaha retains control of specifications for core areas related to the performance and reliability of the power assist system. Famed for high torque and power together with instant response, Yamaha’s light and compact PWseries drive units offer industry partners a diverse range of solutions for each eBike segment.
The standardised development environment and exchange of EDS files enables industry partners to integrate a range of new generation technology from Yamaha including dual-drive, electronic power steering, safety and security features and more. This standardised development environment also enables eBike brands to co-develop exclusive solutions with their own selected partners – opening up new possibilities in areas including IoT, ABS, GPS and electronic/automatic transmission – as well as smart locks and smart lights.
OEM manufacturers can co-develop exclusive solutions with partners using CAN OPEN EDS provided by Yamaha.
