Bosch eBike Systems expands ABS braking partnerships with Tektro and TRP

Bosch eBike ABS systems is to work with Taiwanese brake specialist Tektro to bring the ‘safer braking system’ to more e-bikes.

Announced at this year’s Taipei Cycle Show, the deal means bicycle manufacturers will have two brake manufacturer options (the other being Magura) if using Bosch eBike ABS.

Bosch introduced its latest ABS system last year, with its own Accident Research team finding that up to 29% of all accidents involving e-bikes could be mitigated or completely prevented each year, if all e-bikes had ABS as standard.

“We are firmly convinced that eBike ABS will become established on all eBike types in the long term and will become standard on high-quality eBikes,” explained Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike Systems. “Alongside Magura, we are now working with another renowned brake manufacturer, Tektro, who are particularly concerned about the safety of eBikers. We are looking forward to working together.”

Tektro’s braking systems will be available for all Bosch-powered eBike types – from the eCity and eTrekking bike to the eCargo bike and eMTB – optimised for specially developed ABS modes (ABS Touring, ABS Allroad, ABS Cargo and ABS Trail). For eMTB, the braking systems of the sporty Tektro brand TRP are also compatible with the eBike ABS.

Bosch first entered the e-bike ABS fray in 2017, with products coming to market 2018. There’s more detail on Magura’s link up with Bosch eBike ABS (and competitor system Shimano ABS by Blubrake) in a CI.N report from Eurobike 2022.

The first eBikes with the Bosch eBike ABS and Tektro brake components are expected to be available from the third quarter of 2023.
