Cycling brands join together to help cut supply chain emissions
Eight companies have come together to launch a new training course to help cut supply chain emissions in an industry-wide strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Up to 95% of carbon emissions happens during the extraction, sourcing and production of bicycle materials and components leading to the launch of the climate action training course to aid business partners.
Accell, Canyon, Quality Bicycle Products, Rose, Schindelhauer, Schwalbe, Scott, and Trek created the climate action training course which is available in English, starting 29th of October, Manderin and Vietnamese, starting mid-November.
The free course is aimed at top management and technical mid-management to raise awareness about manufacturing sites role in reducing emissions.
Knowledge on measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions and how to set reduction targets is provided by the training. It will also equip suppliers with resources to aid reduction of their supply chain emissions.
Relevant case studies are also provided to companies containing potential solutions for decreasing emissions.
The course is self-paced and available online for free to the entire cycling industry, with brands being encouraged to do the course with their business partners. A tour-guided option is available for groups.
Shift cycling culture and Deutsche gesellschaft fur internationale zusammenarbeit (GIZ) co-facilitate the initiative and hope to lay out a blue print for other collaborative projects within the industry.
Training was developed with the support of the German federal ministry for economic cooperation and development (BMZ) to help companies transition to net zero and to help companies fulfil due diligence obligations to their supply chains.
